Tempstar Furnace Won T Ignite

If the igniter is cracked replace it.
Tempstar furnace won t ignite. If the igniter is not cracked use a multimeter to test the igniter for continuity. If the igniter fails or cracks the furnace won t heat. To fix the furnace that won t start turn off the power to the furnace and turn off the gas. Check that the thermostat is in the heating mode of operation.
Check that the thermostat has power to it if your furnace won t turn on. Remove the front panel and look for the ignitor sensor. The pilot light or ignition sensor is usually the most common issue when your furnace will not ignite. If any of these things aren t right you won t get ignition.
Set the temperature you would like for test purposes just set about 10 degrees hotter than the current temperature to see if the furnace turns on. To determine if the igniter is faulty remove the igniter and inspect. Check that the thermostat is on. It is usually located near where the flames shoot out of the burners.
Answered by a verified hvac technician. A faulty or dirty ignition or sensor is a relatively easy fix so follow these steps and you may be able to solve the problem yourself. Take the aluminium pilot tube off the gas valve start up and see if gas actually comes out of the pilot fitting and if you have 24v on the 2 blue wires the igniter may be bad that should cause the mini igniter to glow when it gets 24v. If you have hot surface ignition the ignitor may be broke.
If it s an intermittent pilot system there may be other things going on to where no ignition sequence is taking place. The igniter gets very hot and glows bright orange to light the gas burner. This is typically the problem if you can hear your furnace click on but it does not fire up.
